From the messy desk of Amanda Eichstaedt…
Last week we had some incorrect info for ESFORÇO, so here is the complete deets. You will recall them by their colorful outfits and amazing dance moves. Truly an unforgettable group! Every year there are more local, familiar folks dancing in the streets!
This energetic comparsa is ESFORÇO (“es-four-sue”) led by Angelita Peter and Chrissy Costello, with costumes by Katie Lister. In Portuguese “Esforço” means ENDEAVOR.  Esforço was founded in 2016 and is based in the North Bay, with many dancers from West Marin. This world fusion contingent strives to make dancing accessible and inclusionary for all people! Esforço is a family that fosters community, and this is their fifth year performing in Western Weekend. Their theme this year is feminine empowerment through the decades, and all of the tracks they are dancing to are by female musicians from different eras. The choreography is both strong, fierce, and empowered, as well as graceful and liquid – embodying characteristics of femininity. We love you West Marin!

ESFORÇO was the grant prize winner of the parade!
And a very touching moment (one of many in this recent parade) was Bob Nave from the Nave Patrol showed up this year with his grandson in arms. Twenty seven years ago he walked in the Western Weekend parade with his daughter. Precious.

I personally think that the Environmental Action Committee did a fabulous job with their float, and by helping the youth (overseen by Grand Marshal Madeline Hope) and others, in picking up and sorting any wayward trash. Their parade paraphernalia included original artwork by Richard and Judith Lang.

A good time was had by all. Once again, a big shout out to Chris Giacomini and the entire crew at Toby’s for hosting the 4-H and FFA Fair, as well as the food court, and for the use of their truck for the grandstand.
I personally think there should be a footwear category, and truly Shook might have won first prize! Maybe next year? Another fabulous photo by KWMR’s own Alyssa Tanner!
And a big congratulations to Sheryl Cahill and crew for opening the Station House Cafe in their new/old location on Main Street.
Have a great week,
