Many of you may have seen my letter in the Point Reyes Light that described my personal experience with a land line not working unless powered, in this case by a small generator at the AT&T site in Olema. In no way do I think that land lines are not critical. I believe that all communication forms should work reliably and have redundancies. I’m in the communication business. We think all the time about “what ifs,” and work to come up with solutions if something doesn’t work as planned. 

In fact, if you knew the number of conversations that we have like this at KWMR, you might feel either reassured or think we are nuts.

For those of you continuing to fight the good fight to preserve copper landlines, more power to you. I wish you luck. My personal dealings with AT&T via KWMR and with our personal service gives me cause for concern. This is meant in no way to disparage any one technician or customer service representative, but more the sheer size and complexity of a privately held utility company.

I just started re-airing a collection of short stories “Picture This” on “Turning Pages” last week. It is 15 weeks of reading these stories. Well, hold the line, last week Matt Gallagher popped into my office and is keen to do some reading. He will start reading “A Briefer History of Time” by Leonard Mlodinow (& Stephen Hawking) next Monday the 3rd of August at 10 AM. Looking forward to hearing a new voice on “Turning Pages.”

Whoa Nellie, ease up! How about that short-lived Wells Fargo sign in Point Reyes Station. The sign clearly was larger than Marin County’s guidelines permit. It was up, polished, and then back on the truck before anyone could chain themselves to it.
