Round Up Newsletter: ”Spring Loaded Arm”

“Spring Loaded Arm”

⚡ May 26, 2026 ⚡

We used to joke around that someone had a “spring loaded arm.” That meant that they would be the first one to raise their hand to volunteer or answer a question. Think Arnold Horshack (I realize I may have lost a few folks here) on “Welcome Back Kotter.” â€śOooh Oooh!” If you look up spring loaded arms you get a lot of mechanistic robotic looking things. Not what I am going for at all.

KWMR thrives because of volunteers. Over 100 people between the ages of seven and ninety-three bring their passions, talents, humor and perspectives to the airwaves. And the music, so many great tunes can be heard on KWMR.

We have volunteers who help with events, tending bar, checking folks in, etc. The KWMR Board and Advisors are all volunteers, some of these folks are also on-air hosts.

What we have going on here at KWMR is pretty great! We want to find more folks who might be interested in tuning in, and we need some help in doing that. That is where your spring loaded arm might come in handy.

I can think of a few memorable raised hand situations in my life… Once in elementary school, our music teacher who was very folk music focused (think Donna Donna) asked if any of the class had any songs that they wanted to sing. One small bedraggled blonde kid raised his hand and suggested â€śAfternoon Delight.” Another was a result of this newsletter when we asked for board member candidates. Todd Sulzinger, who had discovered KWMR on a trip to West Marin, piped in. “Ooh Ooh.” He is now our Board Treasurer and he lives in Redwood City. You may well meet Todd, since he frequents our events!

Yes, this is an “ask.” Would you like to be a KWMR volunteer? The station is seeking folks who are willing to be trained to represent KWMR at a variety of events in our listening area. Think farmers markets, concerts at venues, music festivals, community events, etc. There will be training and a crate of stuff to take with you including schedules and KWMR swag. Maybe even a cool hat or t-shirt for you to wear.

You can already be a volunteer at KWMR to add this to your list of fun things to do. And doing this does not preclude you in any way from being on the airwaves at some point. It’s a “both/and” kind of thing. And you don’t need to be on the air “ever” if that totally freaks you out. You just need to like talking to people in person.

If you are interested please fill out the form HERE and we will be in touch. We have a good amount of fun and we hope you are up for joining us!
