“It’s Busy ‘Round Here!”

⚡ March 10, 2026 ⚡

Last week, over eighty 8th graders joined different businesses and nonprofits here in West Marin. Students from Bolinas-Stinson, Lagunitas, Nicasio, and West Marin School had the opportunity to intern for three days through the Magnolia Project.

One intern spent a couple days with us at KWMR, and then, due to some shifting sands, we had a second intern join us on Friday. The Magnolia Project was very thorough setting both students and mentors up for success. Everyone was well prepped and vetted for our roles to help the students succeed in the program. I enjoyed the time I spent with our interns, and I think the students got a lot out of it. Well done!

A Celebration!

On Sunday, I attended Sarah Hobson’s lovely retirement party. Sarah has been the Director of the West Marin Fund for eight years. Sarah helped build up the fund to what it is today. The West Marin Fund has funded many of KWMR’s signature projects such as the KWMR App, website upgrades, upgrading our computers, and our KWMR Emergency Text Alerts (sign up here!). The speeches honoring Sarah as an exceptional leader, mentor, and advocate for the community were heartwarming. Sarah will be missed! Long live the West Marin Fund!

Let’s plant a seed or two…

KWMR has been working with producer and host of “Cultivating Place,” Jennifer Jewell, on a fun event that will be held on Sunday, April 12th at the Dance Palace Community Center. This is a great opportunity to see a radio host in person and witness a live recording for one of her shows for “Cultivating Place” Live. Jennifer will hold her keystone conversation with Rebecca Newburn. There will be some fun things going on as well. Get your tickets here!

Safety first…

The first known use of the word bungee was in 1944, and according to my pals at Merriam-Webster, the etymology is unknown. They call them octopus straps in Australia. At KWMR, we use them to secure the CDs from flying off the shelves in the event of a temblor. I can only imagine trying to get to the broadcast studio to bring important updates and skating over piles of plastic jewel cases. No thanks!

With the help of our interns, we have secured our CDs. The Magnolia Project is helping youth secure their skills for the future and Sarah Hobson has securely built up the West Marin Fund to sustain those of us who work in place. Jennifer Jewell is coming to record a radio show in our own cultivated place here in West Marin.
