“West Marin stands together!”

There is a lot going on these days. Whether it is multiple local events or alarming news headlines, it’s enough to keep your head spinning. I appreciate you taking the time to read KWMR’s Round Up newsletter.

KWMR appreciates the upwelling of support after losing our federal funding this summer. We are now seeing others struggle from decisions being made at the federal level. The ranches closing in the Point Reyes National Seashore, food insecurity, and other funding cuts are trickling down affecting KWMR’s nonprofit partners.

Our station works hard to support the work of partner organizations in West Marin and beyond and it is distressing to see what is happening. This is a community that cares! Time and time again we have risen to the occasion to give support where it is needed. This is something that I value greatly as a community member.

If you missed the fundraiser for Familias Afectadas de Rancho (FAR) you can still contribute to the fund to help support local ranch workers

The government has been shut down since October 1st and most federal workers have not received a paycheck since then. As of November 1st funding for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is in limbo which will impact 15,500 residents in Marin County according to the Marin Community Foundation website.

The County of Marin is working in cooperation with the SF Marin Food Bank and the Marin Community Foundation to create a fund that will provide a lifeline for those facing hunger until the SNAP funding is back on track.

If you want to help locally you can make financial contributions directly to your local food pantry where you live. There’s a list of Food Pantry locations in Marin HERE. And in Sonoma County HERE. Food pantries have the ability to source economically priced healthy food and have the best knowledge of what is needed.

West Marin Community Services has placed the food bin at the Palace Market to collect non-parishable items while you are shopping, and if you “rounded up” your purchase recently those funds will go to support the Point Reyes Food Pantry as well.

KWMR is only 65 people short of meeting our goal of having 300 people sign up for KWMR’s Emergency Text Messages. You can sign up HERE. Learn more about the product HERE.  A few people have asked me about the messages. You will only get them if we are making emergency announcements.

Hey Sonoma County and OTH listeners! Thanks to Griffo Distillery, we are coming to Petaluma to do an event. Learn more HERE and I hope to see you there. I will be chatting with Space Orchestra on the Monday Mix on November 10th. The event is on November 15th!

Thank you for your support!
