The Marin Independent Journal showed up in a big way for KWMR West Marin Community Radio this week, with the Editorial Board weighing in on recent funding cuts, a striking cartoon by George Russell, and a multiple page spread (linked and below) in their “Support and Shop Local” advertising supplement.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has in recent years been in the bull’s-eye of Republican politicians who bristle that its programing isn’t as conservative as they prefer – too left-leaning for their tastes.
That includes President Donald Trump, who with the GOP ruling Congress, cut $1.1 billion in funding for 2026 and 2027, including money that supports more than 1,500 public radio and television stations.
That budget swipe includes a small station that those politicians probably have never heard of – the Point Reyes Station-based KWMR.
The cuts include grant funding – about $160,000 per year. That amounts to about 25% of the nonprofit station’s annual budget.
