Round Up: “And to recap…”

“And to recap…”
June 3, 2025

Another fine Western Weekend is in the bag. What a fun time. The weather was perfect and the floats were festive. If you missed it you can tune in to hear the audio and see some photos of the day HERE. The beginning of the audio is a bit muddy, but it improves and the sound engineers dialed it in.

The judges deemed several of the floats prize-worthy, but I would say that everyone gets big props from me for their participation. The food was delicious and I even saw some of the Haggards participating, so their show the previous night must not have knocked them out too badly. Full results can be found here!

The amazing photo exhibit at the Russell Chatham Gallery will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in June from noon to 4 PM and I highly recommend you check it out. It is amazing.

The yard at Toby’s was hopping post-parade with big plates of BBQ chicken, tacos, oysters, and sweet desserts. The showing of nonprofits was impressive.

A big thanks to Robert CardwellMatt Gallagher, and Dolores Gonzalez for some top notch announcing!

Last Fiscal Year to Know

Better late than never is the 2023-2024 KWMR Fiscal Year Annual Report. Jordan Bowen was able to make it a stunning representation of the vibrancy of KWMR. You can check it out HERE.

4-H Fair

I mentioned this last week and heard from several people that they were sad to not see the 4-H projects displayed at Toby’s on Saturday. Don’t despair – the 4-H Fair is happening this coming Saturday!

And today the House Committee on Rules is scheduled to meet at 2:00 p.m. ET today (June 10) to take up the rescission proposal. Political watchers do not expect the committee to allow for amendments. The Committee will schedule a vote in the House. It’s uncertain when that vote may be, but it could occur as early as tomorrow. As of 4:20 PM today the bill has cleared the House Rules Committee which sets it up for a floor vote later this week. Follow the issue by signing up for Protectmypublicmedia.org. There is still time to reach out and let our elected officials know how important public media is to us all.

I’m glad the fog burned off on Sunday for the parade. But I’m kind of enjoying the marine layer this year. We know that if we want to get warm we just have to drive about 15 minutes east of where we sit. I watched a gentleman stop his convertible on Bear Valley Road, get out, pull out a puffy jacket from the trunk, put the top up and continue West yesterday afternoon. Yep.
