Round Up: “It’s Western Weekend!”

6/3/2025KWMR

“Tada!”
June 3, 2025

This weekend is Western Weekend in West Marin, and KWMR will broadcast the parade live starting at noon. When the rooster crows and the cow moos, we’ll go live with parade commentary. This year, the announcers of the parade entries will once again be Robert CardwellDolores Gonzalez, and Matt Gallagher, in both English and Spanish over the KWMR airwaves.

You might want to bring your little radio to tune in even at the parade, or see if you can activate KWMR’s App to listen to our esteemed announcers.

For the most up to date information on the event please go to westernweekend.org. And be sure to layer up (could be warm, might get cold and windy, not likely to rain this weekend). Sunblock and your own water bottle would be good additions. Thanks to North Marin Water for providing fill up stations.

Looks like it’s going to be a fun and eventful parade line-up, too!

And be sure to visit the yard at Toby’s (thanks Chris and family) to enjoy some BBQ chicken from the Farm Bureau, or some tacos hosted by the Tomales High class of 2026! Papermill Creek Children’s Corner will be selling oysters, and the Rotary Club of West Marin will be slinging chilli! And if you have a sweet tooth, the 4-H will have tasty baked goods and Straus ice cream to satisfy.

Don’t forget to duck in to Toby’s gallery for a view of the Gallery Route One Artists in the Schools exhibit. And if you are looking forward to something to do on Saturday, we’ve got you covered.

Starting Saturday at 11 AM, Lourdes Romo will host author Adolfo Calderon Sabido at Casa Y Corazon in Point Reyes Station. At 2 PM, there is a photo exhibit opening at 1101 Highway 1 (where Captain Oko used to be) of work that celebrates the theme “Honoring Those Who Labor On The Land,” including the works of Art Rogers and M.B. BoissevainDewey Livingston will be on hand to do a short presentation.

And Saturday evening West Marin Commons will be hosting the Barn Dance, complete with a fundraiser for FAR, the announcement of the Grand Marshal and Junior Grand Marshal, and then a fun square dance.

A big thank you to the West Marin Lions Club for being the juice behind Western Weekend. And big kudos to Rhonda Kutter, Madeline Hope, Shelley Rugg, and Summer Cassel for meeting and planning coordination and great notes! We must also recognize Denise Rocco-Zilber for her hard work on the photo exhibit. And welcome to Lisa Krieger for her work on PR and to Elizabeth Hollis for organizing the food corral. Also a shout out to Deirdre Nemmers for her graphic work once again.

And don’t freak out. The 4-H Fair will be held on June 14th this year. Check the Marin 4-H Facebook Page for updates on location and times. But 4-H will be at Western Weekend on the 8th with their delicious desserts.

KWMR would also like to thank Richard DillmanJames Mohri, and Jeff Manson for their technical work on the live remote. A thanks also to Rob Richards for holding down the fort and for the wonderful programming that will be provided throughout the day by the Earth Baby team and Betsy Nichols

There are more folks to thank, of course, and I won’t be able to fit them all in here. A few more organizations to “shout out” include Marin County Fire DepartmentMarin County ParksMarin County SheriffMarin County Department of Public Works, the Marin Medical Reserves and the West Marin Resiliency Team.

See you at Western Weekend!
