Round Up: “What’s Cooking?”

“What’s Cooking?”
February 18, 2025

This past weekend was spent immersed in long-time friendships. A group of eight of us, with many cross-connected ways of knowing one another, were fortunate enough to enjoy some time together. We hung out, visited the elephant seals, and ate lots of great food.

On Sunday, I had the pleasure of preparing a meal for everyone with the help of my cousin (who is really  not my cousin, but close enough). I really enjoy cooking in general, and making good food for people that you care about is a special treat.

And to make things even better, KWMR’s programming on Sunday accompanied my culinary efforts perfectly. KWMR starts the week on Sunday, and it is an ‘A’ Week. Not that it matters to most folks, but due to the fact that we have so many shows that are on every other week, it’s very important to us.

“Sunday Baroque” started it all off, followed by DJ Van Wah’s “Second Breakfast.” I had some housework to do and the “Cute Radio” rebroadcast was just the ticket! “Contacto Brasil” allowed me to step it down a bit and enjoy Oscar’s selections. “Culture Caravan” bridged the gap nicely before Betsy Nichols took to the airwaves with “Foraging.” Betsy handed the baton off to Rob Richards who nailed every single tune on “Midnight in Luxembourg,” which was followed up by Charlie Callahan, a new programmer (his show is “See Life” which airs alternate Thursday’s at 11 AM). Charlie sat in for Tatiana and Travis’ “Sincerely Radio.” Buddy hopped on after them with his unique blend of tunes on “Clockwatchers.”

Thank you KWMR for featuring hand picked, curated, artisanal music played for you by interesting community members – all volunteers!

With all the crazy stuff going on in the world, it was nice to go out and crack up listening to the little weaners figuring it out after their mothers have returned to the ocean. The ranger talk at Drake’s Beach was so informative. It was great to introduce my old friends to KWMR’s programming and be reminded of how very lucky we are to live in this beautiful place.

If you need a pick-me-up, I highly recommend checking out the archives of the linked programs above, or ANY of KWMR’s programming. Sunday is just one example of what you can find on the airwaves all the time. Music can soothe the soul and bring joy. And now that the app is working, you can always escape the news-cycle by streaming music shows from KWMR.

Thank you local community radio!!
