Zumba Vs. Water Aerobics
Back in May when KWMR had our 25th Anniversary Birthday Party I did “some” Zumba. I am not a natural at Zumba. And not due to the instruction from the amazing and talented (if you saw the Shakespeare play in Inverness you know what I’m talking about) Chrissy Costello and Gina Tanner. Nope. It’s just not may jam. I think it’s important to learn what your jam is, and what it isn’t, and sometimes that is by process of elimination. It’s by stepping out of your comfort zone and finding a new comfort zone, or finding yourself really uncomfortable and saying, “this is not for me.”
I visited my mom last week and attended her water aerobics class. First off, hats off to these folks for convening frequently in a pool for exercise (I know that pools are few and far between in West Marin). It was really fun. The instructor obviously loved what she was doing and was digging the tunes. There was singing along and much enthusiasm. Maybe I liked it because 80% or so of my body was under water, but it was fun and a pretty good workout.
At this point, I would have to vote for water aerobics for me. But Zumba on you Zumba folks!
I wrote about this a few weeks ago in the Round Up. Tomorrow on The Lowdown you can hear my interview with Kim Klein about the project. It was a fun interview! Kim is great and has a lot to offer. We are so lucky to have done this work with her as she is “retired.” I hope that you will check out the Round Up if you did not read it, and for sure listen to the interview with Kim tomorrow at 9 AM. I will link to it in the newsletter next week.
Speaking of Comfort Zones
I hope to see a few of you in the Marin LEO (Leadership for Equity and Opportunity) training that starts tomorrow. Many of you may have already done this, since it has been held in Marin many times over the years. I did it first during ye olde pandemic, and tomorrow through Wednesday will be an in-person session for my third round.
If you are interested in learning more about this process of solving problems from a values based place, check out Monica Sharma’s book “Radical Transformational Leadership – Strategic Action for Change Agents.” It’s a good read and will give you a taste of what hundreds of leaders and change makers in Marin have experienced! A big thank you to the Marin Community Foundation for making this training possible, free of charge for Marin participants.
I have definitely stretched my comfort zone in this training and enlarged it to include more equity integrated solutions. Thank you Impact Launch!
And a big shout out to Ellen Shehadeh for finding my stupid typo in last weeks column!
