“Walkin’ the dog…”

From the messy desk of Amanda Eichstaedt

W.A.L.K.

I am pretty sure that Waylon can spell. In fact, he is downright brilliant, and I think he might be a mind reader. Otherwise I can’t really explain his behavior at times. For those of you who may not know, Waylon is Ken and my dog. He is an English Shepherd and looks just like his mom, but has more of the personality of his father dog.

Some herding dog breeds are intense fetchers. Not Waylon, when something is thrown his way, he usually ducks. And when he does entertain catching a toy thrown his way, he usually tries to use his paws, it’s pretty ridiculous. He can also be a bit unpredictable, or maybe it’s just me.

I spend a lot of time walking or running with Waylon and I thoroughly enjoy these outings. Some are spirited runs where we are burning calories and getting our heart rates up. Others are meandering sniffer walks where it’s fine to really discover who or what had been there before.

The world is full of squirrels.  There are actual squirrels, then there are big huge squirrels that sometimes have antlers. There are black and white squirrels that are to be avoided, and some smaller squirrels that live under the dirt (they are to be dug up). And don’t forget all the different variety of squirrels that fly in the sky. So many squirrels.

So if you see me out with my intensely handsome dog, walking or running. Please don’t be offended if I don’t make eye contact or wave at you. Sometimes this just sets Waylon off, and the last thing that I want to do is waggle a poop bag in your direction rather than a proper wave.

All of us here at KWMR hope that you have a wonderful Thursday this week, regardless of what you might decide to eat or who you choose to eat it with. It’s a time of giving thanks. We at KWMR thank you for reading this, listening to the shows, and supporting the radio station.

BTW, were any of you tuned in this past Sunday between 9 AM and 10 PM (pretty much the whole damned day). There was nothing but excellent programming and amazing tunes chosen for you. A special big shout out to “Earth Baby Radio,”“New Orleans on the Faultline,”“To Hell & Bach,” “Between Rock & a Jazz Place,” and “Pick N Pull.” Dang me. That was some awesome radio. And it’s like this a lot of the time.  : )

Last year I had the great privilege of going on the 8th Grade Civil Rights Trip with the Lagunitas School. It was amazing. You can listen to the audio piece that I put together from the trip HERE. If you would like to contribute to the fundraising to send every kid on the trip, do so at the link above. I know that they are working hard to fundraise.

Speaking of the San Geronimo Valley, KWMR is excited to have “The Coffee and Whiskey Hour” every other Monday morning, hosted by Darren Nelson and Danny Montana. Worth a check out, since they are two of the most chill dudes I have ever met. And musicians don’t get up that early usually.
