“Happy 4th of July”

7/6/2023KWMR

It’s July!

Tuesday July 4, 2023
From the messy desk of Amanda Eichstaedt

In the words of Dave Alvin, “Hey, baby, it’s the Fourth of July!” He wrote that song and it has been covered by a few folks. I hope you have a safe and enjoyable Tuesday off. Remember, no fireworks in Marin, but you can catch a great 12 minute show at the Marin County Fair, which ends today.

KWMR headed over to the fair on Sunday, July 2nd. It was hot. Really hot, but still pretty darn great. Here is our Special Epicenter from that day. It was fun to tour around with Marin County Cultural Services employee, Libby Garrison. She set up some great opportunities to learn more about the fair. And it was super fun to meet the Director, Gabriella Calicchio in person (we had only ever Zoomed).

Press On Randy played the Community Stage, sponsored by KWMR. If you have not checked him out, it’s our good buddy Seamus Tomkins, who is also a Community Response Team lead, participates in the West Marin Disaster Council, is a KWMR Programmer, and will be starring in the Shakespeare production this summer alongside Matt Gallagher. Wow, typing all that sort of made me tired. And he will be playing at Smiley’s Schooner Saloon later this summer with his “music making” hat on. Highly recommend checking it out!

And an update on Jeff Wilkinson (host of “Saturday Night Function” and “Cruisin.”). He is on the mend. Ken and I visited him and brought him some of the cards that folks had mailed to KWMR (PO Box 1262, Point Reyes Station, CA 94956). He was touched, and really loved to hear from folks. If you are interested in visiting, shoot me an email.

And last week Mia Johnson, Alyssa Tanner, Jeff Manson and I all went to the National Federation of Community Broadcasters conference in Denver, Colorado. It was great. We presented, learned a lot and got to see everyone’s legs! You can only do so much Zoom.

Happy 4th of July from all of us at KWMR! We will catch you  next week with more updates and happenings involving KWMR.
