It’s Not Even Foggust Yet….

When I first visited West Marin it was to backpack in the summer. We launched from Bear Valley under clear blue skies and then spent the next four days hiking around on the coastal side in the fog. When my husband was courting me to move to West Marin all I could think about was that fog. I said I would give West Marin a chance and see if I could hack it.

Here I am just a mere 18 years later and here is one gal that LOVES the fog. How did that happen? I’m not sure. I do know that it is a helpful element during wildfire season, but it goes further than that. Maybe it’s because I now have hot flashes? Not sure, but I do know that the coastal fog, especially when it is dripping to the point of almost raining, is one of my favorite things about West Marin. Who would have thought? I think I can hack it!

COMING RIGHT UP!

If you perused the KWMR Annual Report, you would have seen an emphasis on inclusion and diversity and equity. One of Jeffrey Manson’s projects was to create a block of informative Spanish language programming, and this will launch later this month! Great work, Jeff!

Starting on Saturday July 16th, KWMR will be airing a block of bilingual programming, from 8-11am. We’re excited about dedicating this small part of our weekly schedule to an experiment to see if we can welcome more listeners in our West Marin community into the KWMR fold. We have put a lot of effort into curating a morning of vibrant and informative material, that will appeal to Here are the details;

From 8-9am, we will bring you Linea Abierta from Radio Bilingue, a daily talk show that connects Spanish-speaking audiences across the United States and Mexico. Línea Abierta offers an hour of news, analysis, reports, interviews and round tables in Spanish, special series and talk shows, on topics such as health, politics, the environment, education, arts and culture, race relations, immigrant rights and more.

Then, from 9-10am, we’ll be airing a locally-produced show called La Cuenca incorporating great music, locally-relevant PSAs, interviews and more, in both Spanish and English, along with a 14 minute news feature called Edicion Semenaria, a weekly magazine that has been on the air since 1993. Three- to five-minute feature stories explore the week’s big news stories, as well as human interest and cultural arts stories.

Finally, from 10-11am, we will air a rebroadcast of Cuerpo Corazon Communidad from Multicultural Center of Marin in San Rafael. We’ve carried this wonderful program on Wednesday mornings for years and  Suggestions and Solutions on Health, Safety, Satisfaction and Serenitywith your host Brenda Camarena.

Again, we envision this block of bilingual programming as an experiment, and anticipate the content in this spot to evolve over time.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions, and PLEASE let any spanish-speaking friends and family know that we are bringing this material to our local airwaves.

Warmly,

Jeff
