Sheep ranchers and cheesemakers Marissa Barinaga and Corey Goodman have bequeathed their ranch to Marin Agricultural Land Trust. Lyons Filmer hosts a conversation with them and Jamison Watt, Executive Director of MALT.
The third current Mesa Refuge attendee is Shane Bauer, a staff writer at Mother Jones magazine. From 2009-2011 Shane was held hostage in Iran with his now-wife Sarah Shourd and friend Josh Fattal. Together they authored a memoir, A Sliver of Light, published by Houghton-Mifflin Harcourt.
Also coming to Mesa Refuge, Tom David has worked for the past 26 years as staff and consultant to a number of private foundations. At Mesa Refuge, he plans to write about the challenges of culture change in philanthropic foundations to support social change.
One of the upcoming attendees at Mesa Refuge Writers Retreat, Casey Miner is an independent public radio producer. Most recently she was senior editor of the award-winning news, arts, and culture program, Crosscurrents, on KALW 91.7 FM in San Francisco. She'll be spending her time at Mesa producing a radio series about what we can learn from ancient food.
