Pt. Reyes Station Campus Would Host Most Local Health Service Providers  After over two years of planning, a West Marin group is seeking support for a 27,000 sq. ft. Collaborative Healthcare Center they propose to be built on Mesa Road south of the restrooms/playground. Suzanne Speh and Michael Mery tell George Clyde about the proposal and why it is needed to sustain local healthcares services. Tracking West Marin Wildlife  KWMR joins the Marin County Tracking Club for one of its monthly excursions to Abbotts Lagoon.  Leaders Richard Vacha and Scott Davidson tell George Clyde what the tracks tell about the rabbits, river otters, coyotes and other wildlife in the area, and the spiritual benefits of immersing oneself in nature through tracking.  Click for more information about the free monthly outings and a local tracking class this fall.

Thursday, August 4 - Tomales Bay Oyster Leases Renewed, Finally posted Wed Aug 3 19:26:18 2011

Fish and Game Commission Renews Tomales Bay Oyster Leases on Favorable Terms  It took nearly two years, but Hog Island Oyster Company, Point Reyes Oyster Company and Marin Oyster Company have successfully negotiated long-term leases for up to 25 years, with acceptable increases in rental rates.  George Clyde interviews John Finger of Hog Island Oyster Company about the leases and the obstacles he faces in expanding his lease areas.

Wednesday, August 3 – Inverness Yacht Club Youth Championship Regatta posted Tue Aug 2 19:55:08 2011

Youth Sailboat Regatta on Tomales Bay,  and Lots of Capsizes  Sunday was the Annual Youth Championship Regatta at the Inverness Yacht Club, and George Clyde covered it for KWMR.  Ashley Tobin tells about the youth sailing program, and we hear from many proud parents and soaked kids after the "capsize party."  Maureen Kennedy provides some perspective, and Jim Laws' racing photos are here.

Tuesday, August 2 – Air Tours over Seashore May Be Regulated posted Mon Aug 1 21:09:08 2011

Scoping Process to Develop Air Tour Management Plan  Pursuant to a 2000 law, the FAA and NPS are beginning a rulemaking process respecting commercial air tours over the Pt Reyes National Seashore and GGNRA.  Seashore Superintendent Cicely Muldoon explains what's at stake, and Gordon Bennett of Save our Seashore calls for appropriate limits in numbers, flight elevations and noise levels of tour aircraft. Both urge participation in the scoping process, which includes public meetings August 16 and 17 in San Francisco and Sausalito, and opportunities for written and on-line comments until September 28 (extended to October 21)George Clyde reports.
